Thank you to Michelle from Net-A-Shopper for featuring our Creative Director, Gail Elliott, in her ‘Designer Spotlight’ section. Here is what Michelle had to say about Gail and Little Joe Woman.

Born and raised in London, Elliott lived in Tokyo for two years during her teens, thereafter moving to New York where experiencing a phenomenally successful modelling career.

“My modelling career started when I was 17 – my ballet teacher introduced me to an agent in London. Over the next 24 years I walked in the catwalk shows of every designer you can think of: Gianni Versace, Armani, Valentino, Gaultier, Mugler, Marc Jacobs, Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Donna Karen, Michael Kors, Azzedine Alaia and so many more. I also shot covers, fashion spreads and advertising campaigns for major fashion magazines (including Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle and Marie Claire) with the greatest photographers of that time – Mario Testino, Steven Miesel, Patrick Demarchlier, Arthur Elgort, Craig McDean and Peter Lindberg,” says Elliott.

Following her 24-year career as a model, Elliott felt the need to express what she had learned in the industry more creatively, soon conceptualising her first designs.

“I decided to move from modelling to design because it felt like a natural extension from one career to the next. There is no fashion college one can attend to get the experience I have had.  I grew up with clothing and worked with every major fashion designer in the industry worldwide,” Elliott explains.

Elliott’s label “Little Joe Woman” commenced life with limited production runs, manufactured out of the garment district in New York City.  Her first designs of silk slip dresses and camisoles have become quintessential wardrobe staples for women the world over.

“I needed these pieces for myself and couldn’t seem to find them in stores at the time. They were easy to pack with my hectic travel schedule, yet great to wear and made me feel good!” says Elliott.

The Little Joe Woman label now also produces gilets, leather jackets, knitwear, softly tailored pants, blazers and printed T-shirts; all designed to be worn trans-seasonally.

Through her label Elliott strives to connect with the “women of this world”.  When asked to describe the “Little Joe Woman”, she replies:

“The ‘Little Joe Woman’  is chic and stylish.  She appreciates a little luxury, loves to travel, is well-read, likes to find something special in clothing and loves fashion….she’s a little like me!”
